Hezekiah prayed a short, simple, but effective prayer when he was challenged and intimidated by Sennacherib, the undefeated king of Assyria. As he faced this deadly dilemma, a battle that he had no hope of winning, he did one simple thing. He prayed,
“Now, O LORD our God, deliver us from his hand, so that all kingdoms on earth may know that you alone, O LORD, are God.” (2 Kings 19: 14-19)
The two words, “Deliver us” formed the essence of his prayer. God was not impressed with Sennacherib’s arrogance but He loved Hezekiah’s prayer. Hezekiah turned his battle over to Almighty God and God fought it for Him.
Today, our worldwide challenge is COVID-19. As we battle this deadly virus, we too, can ask God to deliver us. We serve a great, big, wonderful God and He is able and willing to deliver us if and when we ask.
The Scripture reminds us that he who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. He remains our refuge and our fortress so let us activate our faith and trust Him. Surely He will help us navigate through this challenging period. May the LORD bless and keep us safe.
