Fear is one of our most popular contributors of anxiety. So often we are overwhelmed by fear, thinking that our past may negatively affect our present or future life. We are surrounded with economic conditions which cause uncertainty, financial crisis, conflicts, violence, wars, crime, unemployment, sickness, loss, grief, and natural disasters. Parents become anxious about their children’s future, some families have to stay in hiding for their safety and we worry about our own safety. These are some of our daily experiences as the list goes on and on.
We sometimes worry unnecessarily but the bottom line is, fear causes anxiety and stress. Stress can have a negative impact on our bodies. It triggers off depression and weakens our immune system resulting in different types of illnesses. The scripture reminds us that when we walk through the waters, God will be with us and He will not let the rivers overflow us. Even when we walk through the fire, it will not burn us and the He will not allow the flame to hurt us.
On my journey, there were instances when I became fearful and asked questions like, “What if..? and I often wondered how my present situation would impact my future. I must confess that sometimes there was no reason to be paranoid. As I grew spiritually, I realized that my strong faith in God allows me to worry less and trust Him more. I have become more proactive and more open to change. This is not easy but I view it as a discipline, and embrace it in order to rise above the circumstances that would compromise my ability to succeed. We may not know our future but God knows the plans that He has for us as He declares in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you, and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” This gives us hope that no matter what we encounter, His plan for our lives remains the same and no man can change that.
Whenever fear knocks on our door, We should arm ourselves with the word of God. The Bible tells us that we should not fear, for God is with us and we should not be dismayed, for He our God. He will strengthen us and uphold us with His right hand. So we should put our trust in God when we are afraid.
Whenever we pray, God hears us and delivers us from all our fears. We are reminded that God has not given us the spirit of fear but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7) God’ Angel’s are always with us so why should we fear? If God be for us, who can stand against us? When the LORD is with us, we should not be afraid or fear what man can do to us. Isaiah 35:4 tells everyone who is discouraged, “Be strong and don’t be afraid. God is coming to your rescue.” Let us believe in God’s word and remain confident that He is our Saviour and our helper. He is faithful and just and will perform that which He has promised.
