LORD Give me a Sign – The Prayer of Gideon
Gideon replied, “If now I have found favour in your eyes, give me a sign that it is really you talking to me.”
At certain times in life we all wish we had a clear sign to let us know which direction to take. Has it ever happened to you, where you needed to know, without a shadow of a doubt, that the desires of your heart are really God’s divine desires for your life? You may even fast and pray and still continue to wait on God while opportunities are passing by.
Gideon was minding his own business (hiding away threshing grain in a winepress) when God called him to deliver his nation from the oppressive enemy. How did he know it was God speaking to him? Gideon needed clear answers. He needed a sign. God’s call was clear, “Go and save Israel. I am sending you!” Although Gideon was almost convinced, he just wasn’t sure God was calling him to such a big task of saving a nation. So all he needed was a clear sign of confirmation.
Gideon used the situation to pray one of the most effective prayers, “If now I have found favour in your eyes, give me a sign that it is really You talking to me” Today I am thankful for this Scripture because there is too much at risk. As we embrace each opportunity this week, we might be making the biggest decision of our life. Like Gideon, let us ask God to show us the sign because if this is not the LORD, we might be heading for absolute failure. While we wait on God’s confirmation, let us commit our lives to Him so that when He speaks, we will hear and understand. God bless you as you journey into another week.
